Learning Opportunities with IBM

Code the Future - Tutor led course

Code the Future (Tutor-led) is a 14 hour course that teaches web development skills, shares experiences of life in tech, showcases the incredible women at IBM, and advises on applying for roles and handling technical interviews. This is a live virtual course that runs once a week for 2 hours in the evening. Tutors will walk the students through the learning content and run 'breakout' sessions with activities for the students to get hands-on.

This course can be adapted to run over 5 days 9-5.

Code the Future - Hybrid course

Our Hybrid Code the Future course covers the same content as our tutor led course but does not include live tutoring. The students will work through the content themselves in their own time, with new sessions being released each week for 6 weeks. Students will have the ability to book 1:1 sessions with the tutors if they need extra support or just have questions about life in tech.

The first and last session will be a virtual meeting to kick off the course and to showcase the amazing websites the students have built by the end of the 6 weeks

Join an IBM Client Innovation Centre Innovation Hackathon

IBM Client Innovation Centre runs external hackathons for colleges and universities to give students an insight into life as an IBMer.

The Hackathons challenge students to come up with new ideas to solve real-world issues and gives them hands-on experience of enterprise style developemt. The teams will utilise Design Thinking and agile processes to create Proof of Concepts to bring thier ideas to life

After attending a Hackathon participants will be able to describe the software lifecycle from Problem Statement to working Proof of Concept, and design, create and test a prototype app/site. They will have greater understanding of the role of a Software Engineering in a Consultancy and be able to present ideas and apps to clients in a clear, concise manner.

Those who meet the given criteria by the end of the Hackathon can earn a Credly Badge (IBM Client Innovation Centre Hackathon: Innovation Squad Member). This allows the participants to share their successful completion of an IBM hackathon on LinkedIn and CVs to help them demonstrate that they have learnt technical and software lifecycle skills and can implement those skills in a hackathon (or enterprise) environment.
